Attack!

This guy is called "Dog" the Bounty Hunter, but clearly is he is confused. He looks like a lion. This picture shows him having a taste of a pig before he attacks and eats it.

Virgin Lion

Richard Branson may be the King of Conglomerates, but he also bears a striking resemblance to the King of the Jungle. Maybe his next venture will be the construction of a zoo/house of mirrors where he can go to look at himself and others like him.

We Don't Need Another Lion?

Tina Turner is a lionness extrordinaire. All of these hairstyles are wigs, so we can only assume that she aims for this look.

Cy-lion?

Well, we know he's not a cylon because instead he's some sort of angel, or whatever, but that doesn't stop Gaius Baltar, a.k.a. James Callis from looking like a lion.

Here he is lounging in his harem's quarters, looking like the alpha male surveying his pride with displeasure.

And here he is, roaring into the microphone at a Battlestar concert with Bear McCreary. This is a good illustration of a concept I mentioned before: one does not necessarily need long hair to be considered a lion look-a-like. Although my first exposure to Callis was when he had long hair at the beginning of Battlestar Galactica, my conviction in his lionlike qualities has remained unwavering despite the shearing of his mane.

Tryin' to be a Lion

John C. Reilly heard about this site and wanted to be one of the first to jump on the lion bandwagon.

Lion-ness

I originally planned to call this blog "Men Who Look Like Lions," but then I realized that would be closing myself off to a whole slew of potential lion look-a-likes. One of the first that came to mind was Gisele Bundchen.

Photobucket

In the picture above, I find her to be very lionlike. With the darker hair in contrast to her lion-colored outfit, she seems to fit right into the jungle behind her as if it were her natural habitat.

I think it is important to note at this point that it is not simply the flowing mane of hair that makes someone look like a lion, an impression you may have gotten from the first couple of posts. Although the hair will often cement the resemblance, I believe that there is a certain sort of leonine face, features that convey lion-ness. I will attempt to illustrate this point in future postings.

Crying Lion

The origin of my interest in people who look like lions comes from Kevin Godley, of the band Godley and Creme. I saw the video for their song "Cry" back in the halcyon days when my basic cable included the best channel ever, The Tube, which showed nothing but videos all day long and often included rare live performances. The "Cry" video was in high rotation on The Tube, and every time I'd say to Rob, "Look, it's that lion guy!"

The video is also of note because its concept is a precursor to the morphing faces idea at the end of Michael Jackson's "Black or White" video. It includes many interesting faces besides the lion guy, including one person that looks just like Mr. T but less angry, and a girl who strongly resembles Michelle Pfeiffer. (I realize that information is more suited to Doppelmänia, but I can't help but point out the dops). You may also recognize the song, as it is constantly on the radio in Grand Theft Auto IV.

Lions

There are a lot of people out there that I think look like lions. I have begun to think more about this as I work on the sister blog to this one, Doppelmänia, because it has caused me to look at faces in a whole new way. While the endeavor of that blog is the serious work of finding and exposing doppelgängers before they can damage the lives of those whom they resemble, this blog will be a more frivolous enterprise. Although actual lions can be quite dangerous, I doubt that people who look like lions are.
